First EST Recommended LED 60W equivalent GLS Lamp

British energy efficiency organization recommends LEDON 10 watt LED lamp

December 2011

LEDON Lamp GmbH, the Zumtobel subsidiary, has won the race to be first to market with an Energy Saving Trust Recommended LED GLS Lamp that is a replacement for the 60 Watt incandescent bulb.

The 10W LEDON retrofit lamp underwent rigorous third party testing to meet the very stringent standards imposed by the UK Energy Saving Trust.

Rated at just 10 Watts it has a luminous flux of 600 lumen, with a warm white colour temperature of 2,700K and with exceptionally good colour rendering (90Ra).  Lifetime is an impressive 25,000 hours (L70) and it is available in B22 and E27 caps.

Energy conscious consumers who look for energy efficient electrical appliances have learned to trust the Energy Saving Trust (EST) Recommended symbol. To achieve recommended status every product has to meet strict energy performance criteria and undergo rigorous third party testing.

Austrian based LEDON offers a growing range of high specification retrofit LED lamps. The 10W utilizes British knowhow as the electronics are designed and manufactured in the UK.

With the progressive phase-out of incandescent lamps and the poor consumer acceptance of CFLs the opportunities for LED are significant and with boldly branded packaging and point of sale materials LEDON is building a strong brand presence in the European market.

Editors’ Notes:

The EuP directive, banning inefficient incandescent light bulbs progressively prohibits the sale of traditional light bulbs. 100W, 75W and 60W bulbs are already banned from manufacture or importation with the EU.
